Conclusion and Recommendations for Future Work
While we have accurately followed tip trajectories of biological phenomenon found in nature, other factors and details should be addressed to make the model more realistic. The tilt of the wings as it rocks is uncharacteristic of birds as mentioned before because of the odd aerodynamics cause by the way the rest of the bats wings bend as they flap. Regardless, achieving 3D motion with a reasonable wing tip trajectory does accomplish our goal.
A natural next time in the modeling process would be to create a dynamic model of the bird wing mechanism. We recommend creating a PMDC motor models with situation and torque limits, with potential PID control. The inertia of the individual links, rocker, and motors, as well as friction in the motor and joints should all be considered in the analysis.
A good place to start would be to create a Simulink model of our SolidWorks model. This can be done by installing the Simulink SolidWork link adding, in which you can directly import a SolidWorks model into Simulink and a dynamic model will be created.
