Rising 5th Years: Registration Procedures
STEP 1: PREPARE
Run your BSBME IDA: https://registrar.utexas.edu/studentsdegrees/ida. Make sure your IDA lists 92-99% with in-progress courses. Email Chase (c.dawkins@austin.utexas.edu) with any corrections that need to be made.
Review MSE Degree Requirements & download MSE Program of Work attached to this page.
9 hours (3 classes) is considered full time. Make a plan for which three (3) graduate courses you wish to take in fall, being careful to check how they will count in your MSE Program of Work. The Fall Course Schedule is posted a few weeks before registration begins. The approved coursework listing shows how graduate courses count toward the MSE program of work. This list is not exhaustive. If you want to take a course that is not listed, email Dr. Edward Castillo (edward.castillo@utexas.edu) for permission to take the course.
STEP 2: ADVISING
Complete the appropriate UT BME graduate advising form found in the graduate program administrator's email message to the UT BME graduate program list serv (note our current GPA is Jenny Kondo, jenny.kondo@austin.utexas.edu). Jenny will confirm via email whether the courses you've selected are matched to an appropriate coursework requirement.
STEP 3: REGISTER FOR 3 GRADUATE CLASSES
Rising 5th year students have two options: (1) register for fall courses during the spring registration period (which requires permission from ESS) or (2) wait and register yourself in the summer registration period after you've been admitted to UT's Graduate School.
For instructions on how to request approval from ESS and register during the spring registration period only, please see STEPS 3 and 4 on this specific page. Note: Please DO NOT send your forms to the Graduate School. Since you are taking these courses in graduate standing, you do not need to reserve them for graduate credit. The form is simply used to gain permission from ESS to enroll in the course.
Non-BME Graduate Classes: If you want to enroll in a non-BME course that is restricted, send an email to the graduate administrator or coordinator in the department for the class. The course may require instructor approval or the course may be restricted through the first week of classes. If the course requires instructor approval, send a copy of your Reservation of Course for Graduate Credit form to the graduate program administrator as proof of instructor approval.
Use the list of all Graduate Coordinators on campus to locate the appropriate person to email. Copy Jenny on these emails.
To register for BME 698A or 698B Thesis courses: complete the Thesis Registration Form (attached below) and send it to jenny.kondo@austin.utexas.edu (Jenny will need to authorize you to add a thesis course).
