Making Calls

 Multiple options (click to expand instructions)

Options:

  • Pick up phone, dial as you normally would, wait a few seconds for the call to initiate
  • Pick up phone, dial as you normally would, press "DIAL"
  • View missed calls, lift receiver, the phone will dial
  • Dial number, lift receiver, the phone will dial

On-Campus Numbers

  • Dial the 5-digit campus number (the last 5 digits of their full number)

Off-Campus, Local Numbers

  • Dial 9, followed by the full 10-digit number. Example: 9, 512-232-3100

Off-Campus, Long-Distance Numbers

  • Dial 9, then 1, followed by the full-10-digit number. Example: 9,-1-712-555-0123 or 9,-1-800-555-0123

Email delivery of voicemail

  1. Log in to http://voicemail.its.utexas.edu/
  2. Go to "Notifications."
  3. Set up notifications.
    1. Send to one or more email addresses.
    2. SMS gateways to receive text notification: https://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17056/~/list-of-mobile-carrier-gateway-addresses
  4. Activate notification.

Transferring a call

Minimum hassle transfer:

Before transferring tell the caller the phone number you are transferring them to in case forwarding drops the callor there is no answer.
  1. Press the button under the "TRNSFR" display. The caller will be put on hold (music plays) while you select your options.
  2. Click "Blind."
  3. Dial the 5-digit extension number.
  4. Hang up.

To announce the call to the person you are transferring to:

  1. Press the button under the "TRNSFR" display. The caller will be put on hold with music while you select your options.
  2. The line will ring.
  3. Click the button under the "Normal" display.
  4.  Wait for an answer to announce the call, click TRNSF again to disconnect (? not tested 2/6/2018 )
  5. If there is no answer or voice mail picks up, return to the caller by clicking ??????

Changing your outgoing voice mail

To forward all calls straight to voicemail (e.g., over the weekend & during holidays):

  • To activate this feature:  From the dial tone, dial 72 28886 and wait for the confirmation tone, then hang up.
  • To deactivate this feature:  From the dial tone, dial 73 and wait for the confirmation tone, then hang up.

To listen to and / or change outgoing messages:

  1. On campus, dial 2-8886, or the service code #71, followed by your PIN. If off-campus, dial 512 232-UTVM (8886).
  2. (Main Menu) press 9 to access user options
  3. (User Options Menu) Press 1 to modify greetings
  4. (Modify Greetings Menu) Press 6 to modify greetings
  5. Press 1 for generic greeting , 2 for extended absence greeting, 3 for busy greeting, 4 for no-answer greeting
  6. Press 1 to review current recording
    or wait for the beep to record a new greeting & press # after recording (press * to back out)
  7. After you are happy with the outgoing message recording, save it and go back to the "Modify Greetings Menu"
  8. (Modify Greetings Menu) Press 3 to set current greeting
  9. Select the greeting you wish to use, as instructed (the number changes based on which greeting is currently active


Call Forwarding

To enable always-on call forwarding:

  1. Dial 72 and the 5-digit on-campus number

To disable call forwarding:

  1. Dial 73
  2. Listen for an alert tone
  3. Hang up

To specify whether you want to forward calls "Always" or only when "No answer" and/or "Busy," use the built-in features of the phone.

  1. Press the menu button
  2. Select (1) features by pressing the checkmark button
  3. Select (3) "Forward..." and press the checkmark button.
  4. Press the down arrow to select the choice you want to enable and then press the checkmark button.
  5. Select the phone number under "Contact" to Type in a new 5-digit on-campus number or 10-digit off-campus number. Click OK soft button or Cancel.
  6. Select Disabled and press the arrow key < > to change to Enabled. Click the OK soft button or Cancel.
  7. Click the back arrow <.
  8. If using the "No Answer" option, select the number under "Fwd After Rings" to change the number of rings you'll hear before it forwards to another phone. Click OK soft button or Cancel.
  9. Press the back arrow. <
  10. Click the "Yes" soft button to Save.
  11. Press the Menu button to return to the home screen and verify that the animated screen shows the forwarding number.
  12. To disable, follow the same steps 1-4, and select "Disable," and then save.
