HJST Startup and Shutdown Procedure
Startup:
1. North Control Room:
-Servo amplifiers: 'Declination' and 'Hour Angle' buttons
-Hydraulic bearing: 'Start' button
2. Dome Floor:
-IMPORTANT: Ensure weather conditions are within acceptable limits before proceeding.
-Unplug the extension cord from the HEPA filter.
-Press the green 'Reset' button located on the Telescope Console.
-Pin the doors open.
-Open louvers via the panel located near the doors on the east wall with ‘LL Open.’
-On the console, depress the 'Dome Open' button until the shutter is fully opened.
Note: The console does NOT correctly display the state of the shutter. Rely on visual and audio cues to indicate when the shutter is fully opened.
-On the Hand-Paddle, select 'Upper Windscreen' and move North until it stops.
-Open the mirror cover via the console.
-Extend the light shield.
Note: For GCMS (VIRUS-P) and VIRUS-W ONLY (Generally any instrument at f/9 will use the light shield / baffle).
-In the TCS computer, select Tools → Enable Dome Automation
3. Slit Room (for TS2 ONLY):
-Slew M5 turret to Slit #2 Silver.
-Carefully uncover M5.
-If slit cover is present, remove it carefully.
-Uncover Guide Reflector and Guide Camera if covered.
Shutdown:
Note: Before leaving for the night, please logout from ATLAS.
1. Dome Floor:
-Retract the light shield if extended.
-Close mirror cover.
-Close dome shutter.
-In TCS: Next → Stow → Yes → Go Next.
-Slew to stow.
-Center the upper windscreen over the telescope.
-Close doors and louvers.
-Turn on Passage Lights.
-E-stop the console.
2. Slit Room (for TS2 ONLY):
-Carefully cover M5.
