One Free Try Grading
Many users are familiar with our use of a diminishing returns grading system. In an effort to provide instructors a way to encourage students to not give up on a question, we've developed what's being called "One Free Try" grading. This method is available on the Grading Scheme page, as well as on the individual assignment creation page. It can also be changed on the assignment settings page after the assignment has already been created.
But how does it work?
By selecting one free try scoring on an assignment or in your gradebook, you provide students just that. Students are given full credit for a question if they get it right on the first or second try. After that the No Negative Points scheme kicks in to reduce the awarded credit for additional retries.
