NPL specializes in high quality, pixel dense photography. It is a time consuming and exacting practice, but the results are amazing. The specimen in the image below is about 1 3/4" long. 6 pictures were taken, each at different focal planes. These 6 photos were then run through a stacking software that pulls the most 'in focus' parts of each photo and stacks them. At 25% file size, the image is very crisply detailed, and ready for publication. If we needed to print a poster with this image on it, the native file size (100%) is 18 3/4" X 12 1/2" with a resolution of 300. We can blow these images up to about 180% the original size before we start losing detail to pixelation.
