LS Posting Policy

Purpose

The learning specialist appointment policy has been created to provide a basic structure and set of expectations moving forward regarding the required number of Learning specialist appointments for members of the Sanger Learning Center. This is a living document and is not intended to be prescriptive. Professional staff members are encouraged and expected to communicate with their immediate supervisor should, at any time, be unable to meet the requirement due to workloads and other extenuating circumstances.

Policy

  1. The management team is expected to post two (2) weekly appointments.
  2. Learning Specialist (I-IV) positions and any others with academic counseling (or related language) in their job description will post one (1) appointment for every 5% of the effort. While effort and actual time spent are often not equivalent, this policy seeks consistency while meeting departmental and student needs.
    1. If workload permits, staff members are encouraged to post more than the established limit. Any staff without posting requirements is encouraged to post if desired and commitments allow.
  3. Sometimes, the workload will prevent meeting the per-week posting requirements. Staff members encountering temporary constraints must communicate with the supervisor to determine a suitable arrangement.  Arrangements must be temporary as determined by the supervisor and communicated to the Learning Specialist Appointments coordinator.
  4. Staff members are not expected to make up their appointments when they go on leave but should strive to keep their required number of meetings per week.

Additional Posting Requirements

  1. Staff members should select at least five (5) topics to cover during their LS appointment.  Three of those should be “Academic/Scholastic Probation,” “Study Effectiveness,” and “Time Management.”  All other topics depend on the staff’s expertise, affinities, and related functions. Anyone wishing to select more than five is welcome to do so.
  2. Each semester, staff members should update their LS topics as needed, and appointments should start by the 2nd week of classes.
