Skyra Training Room Tips and Tricks
Introduction
This page gives overviews of how to use resources located in the training room across from the Skyra control room.
Current Designs Response Devices (aka Button Boxes)
In order to provide a more accurate training simulation of using the response devices for tasks, we provide a Current Designs 932 response device controller and two sets of response devices. The CurDes 932 is identical to the one used on the scanner itself. It has an extra long USB cable to connect a laptop sitting on the desk in the room.
The response devices are the bimanual 4 button straight (4x2) and bimanual 2 button (2x2) boxes. These however, are older "HH" type devices, and do not support autoconfiguration on the CurDes 932. See this PDF document for instructions for configuration instructions, except, instead of selecting MANUAL CONFIG in step 3, select LEGACY HANDHELD, regardless of the model used. All the other instructions are the same for this setup.
Note that the response devices plug directly into the back of the controller (CurDes 932) instead of a fiber optic cable, like in the magnet room. Please be careful not to force the plugs into the jack on the controller. It only fits in one orientation, and forcing it will break the plugs, which are very expensive to repair. It it doesn't click in easily, it's not in the correct orientation.
Please take care to roll up the cables and place them back on the shelf when finished using them.
WARNING: These pieces of hardware are considered backups for the main system in the magnet. So, if the magnet systems go down, we will have to press these parts into service without warning while repairs are made. Of course, we try to minimize downtime and repair time, but this is a possibility/eventuality you should be prepared to accept when using this equipment.
