The number of levels of review are is defined by the candidate’s college or school:

(1) budget council or executive committee for department (BC/EC) for the department,

(2) department chair,

(3) college/school advisory committee (CAC),

...

(2) dean, and

(3) president’s review committee.

Candidates with joint appointments holding a joint appointment of at least 30% must be reviewed simultaneously in the units corresponding to both the primary and joint appointments (Section D.4). While candidates with courtesy appointments are not reviewed in the units corresponding to the courtesy appointment, the reviewing unit .

Candidates holding a joint appointment of less than 30% are only reviewed in the academic unit corresponding to the primary appointment. Similarly, candidates holding courtesy appointment(s) are reviewed only in the academic unit corresponding to the primary appointment. However, the dean or department chair corresponding to the primary academic unit, or the candidate may request a letter to document their from the department chair and/or dean corresponding to the joint and/or courtesy appointments to evaluate the faculty member’s contributions to that unit (Section G.4).
