Welcome to PLUS!
We’re excited that you’re joining our select team of students who are passionate about learning, and take pride in assisting their peers. PLUS continues to expand every semester, and we rely on your enthusiasm, skill, and thoughtful feedback. Thank you for participating!
The Sanger Learning and Career Center (SLCC) will provide you with pre-service training and ongoing assistance during the semester. Regular meetings between preceptors, senior preceptors, and supported faculty members are the core of PLUS. In these meetings, you will discuss upcoming content, create agendas, and practice group facilitation skills. Senior preceptors serve as the primary contact for preceptors and they are available to answer questions and address concerns (or direct you to the correct person). It is our hope that the people you meet in PLUS turn into genuine mentors and/or friends. As the program coordinator, I want to help you succeed in your role this semester. Please email me at any time (k.walker@austin.utexas.edu) to share information or ask questions.
We also have printed resources for you in the form of this handbook. It contains helpful information about the Sanger Center and PLUS, worksheets that will prepare you for your first group, ideas for study group activities, how to deal with difficult people/awkward situations, what to do when you’re locked out of your assigned room, how to become a senior preceptor and much more.
Let’s have a great semester! I look forward to working with each of you.
