Note:

  • Never loan your UT ID card to someone else, or use your card to let someone else in.

  • Never wear open-toed shoes in the shop.

  • Never wear ear buds, use cell phones or play music while in the Build Lab.

  • Never use equipment that you've not been trained by the Build Lab Manager to operate safely.

  • Always ask if you don't know
  • Always clean up after yourself
  • Always keep aisle clear - 44" at the main aisle and around machinery.  36" is needed around desks.
  • Always bring your own consumable material (screws, nails, paints, sandpaper, etc.).  The Build Lab does not provide it.

(Caveat: wood in the box at the foot of the stairs is free to anyone who needs, but taking material from anywhere else is stealing.)

Condition of Use

Only students, faculty and staff of the School of Architecture can access or use the Build Lab. Furthermore, University policy states that property of the University shall be used only for official business (i.e. in conjunction with assigned studio instruction). Further, that no person (Faculty, Staff, etc.) shall entrust state property to any state official or employee or to anyone else (students) to be used for other than state purposes.

For information and guidance, some examples of unauthorized and improper use of University personnel and property are:

• Use of University facility or equipment for the benefit of a business or company

• Use of a University facility or equipment to make items for sale

• Use of a University facility or equipment to perform non-University work for a private concern or for compensation

• Use of any University personnel, supplies, or materials for other than official University business

All must conscientiously observe these regulations. University resources (facilities, equipment, other property, and personnel) shall not be used for personal gain or for other than what is set forth above. Questions regarding these regulations may be directed to Build Lab Staff or the Assistant Vice President of Administration for the School of Architecture.

Priority of Use

Though it seldom occurs, there are occasions when demand for tools and equipment outstrips their availability.  In such instances, "priority of use" is granted as follows:
