Grade Disputes

The School of Architecture adheres to the procedures for graduate student grade disputes stated in the Handbook of Operating Procedures. Grade disputes are filed with the department offering the course in question. The decision of the school dean is final for ARC, ARI, CRP, LAR, and UDN courses. SOA Student Affairs staff contacts can provide more information about the grade dispute process.

Minimum Grade

Graduate Students

The minimum grade to count toward a student’s program of work is a C. See the Graduate School’s Grades & Credit information. Some graduate programs may have stricter requirements. Contact the Graduate Program Coordinator with any questions.

Plus-Minus Grading System

See the Graduate School’s information about the Plus-Minus Grading System.

Q/F Drops

Graduate students may Q/F drop from the twelfth class day until the last class day. Graduate students may request a Q/F drop form from the Graduate Program Coordinator.

Undergraduate Students

The minimum grade for an ARC, ARI, or CRP course to count toward a student’s degree is a C.

Q-Drop Deadline for Undergraduates

Undergraduate students may Q-drop a course from the twelfth class day until early November for fall or early April for a spring semester. Students may request a Q-drop form from an undergraduate academic advisor.

Absence/Failing Reports

Faculty should notify students of excessive absences or poor performance online via "Absence-Failing" notice provided for that purpose, preferably between the 20th and 40th class day of the semester. Absence/failing reports significantly reduce registration errors and ease academic advising for subsequent semesters. An instructor of record (or proxy) may submit the absence/failing report directly from CLIPs.
