Multi-Lingual Management Module
First, go to the multi-lingual management application, as indicated by the arrow.
Once there, press the green “add a new language” button.
When adding the language, make sure to select “from available system languages” and select the appropriate language given in the options, as the language library contains many translations already and you would not have to majority from scratch.
But, what I noticed when trying to do translations, majority of them are untranslated and you still have to go in and manually do them. (majority of them are red square - step 8)
Set Spanish as the Base language and English as the Fallback because if English is set as the base language, then you can’t do translations from Spanish to English. (There would be no translate button - step 7).
Or, what I also tried is that I created a second English language (English 2) and set that as the base and fallback language, so when you go to the forms/survey button, both English (English 1) and Spanish have a translate feature/button
After setting these settings, navigate to the forms/surveys button and select English at the top of the screen labeled “select a language”.
Switch the red toggle button to the green side for the data entry and survey for the instruments you want to activate the translations on. Keep in mind that the survey toggle button will not be available for all of the instruments. Switch to Spanish (Español) at the top of the screen and do the same with the toggle buttons for the wanted instruments.
Then, navigate to the desired language and instrument you want to translate and click the “translate” button for either survey or field (depends on the instrument and what you want translated).
The green square means that a translations is provided, while the red square means that there is no translation provided.
8a. When adding translations, you can either add them through the rich text editor or you can directly add them to the space right next to the colored square with the label of “Enter translation”
You can also copy the original text into the rich text editor using the button “paste the default text” once inside the rich text editor.
8b. You can also hide all the translated items in order to see what fields are left to translate if you click the “hide translated items” box at the top of the page.
After translating all that you wanted to translate on that specific language, you can switch to the “survey” or “field” (based on what you already on) on that same language by pressing the blue “Survey Settings” or “Fields” button.
To switch to the other language, click on the desired language using the language buttons on top and repeat the same translation steps (steps 8-10)
Always make sure to save your changes, by pressing the “save changes” button or control-S (windows) or command-S (Mac). The Multi-Language Management does not automatically save any changes made, so it’s important to save periodically while working on the module.
