III. Tongue Design
Description
Finalized Coin Accepting Mechanism. As the jaw motion closes, the tongue comes forward and up, staying relatively flat with a small incline. As the jaw moves back along a horizontal line of action, the front of the tongue stays up, while the back of the tongue is forced downward in the pin-slider joint. The coin, which was placed on the tongue can now slide down the back, just like a normal tongue works! Well, almost!
Some Notes
The pin-slider joint had to be sanded down to make it extremely smooth, as these types of joints can have a ton of friction. Also, alignment became an issue but was quickly solved by having the base with the slot be rotatable and be locked in place when the alignment was perfect. The tongue and jaw connection was connected via a pin, both 3D printed. Tolerances needed to be .05 in to properly fit together.
