I. Introduction and Motivation
The Vegetable Cutter was developed to be an easy, hands free and entertaining way to prepare a variety vegetables, cold cuts, or cheeses through mimicking the knife handling of a chef. It is designed as a novelty item for households with medium to large kitchens though the design is still relatively compact.
This mechanism is also a way to introduce people to robotics through accomplishing an ordinary task in an innovative way; therefore, it is designed with an open format so that the individual mechanisms that contribute to the complex motion of completing the task can be easily seen.
Though there are other commercially available vegetable cutters none focus on showing the different mechanisms or how to create the complex motion of a cutting process from simpler motions as an educational or entertainment device.
