IV. Manufacturing and Assembly - PU
Once I had my design complete, I began to think about how to actually manufacture this. I used a combination of plastic, cardboard, metal nuts, bolts, washers, and glue to put together my mechanism. I used the CAD models that I had created as a template to actually be able to cut out the pieces. I also used a drill for making holes into my mechanism.
Unfortunately, it seems that the old saying “measure twice cut once” is more useful than I thought since I had to make another iteration of my mechanism after an error I made. A very important thing to keep in mind is that even though all my work prior to this was essentially done on a flat plane, you have to account for our 3D world. I ran into a lot of issues with the pieces running into each other so I had to create layers.
