7. Conclusions & Future Work
In conclusion, the mechanism worked as intended; the legs supported the back half of the mechanism easily, and the Servo motor had enough torque to propel the mechanism forward. Simplifying the design was a great decision, as it allowed us to have a reliable, working product while still finishing the project before the original deadline.
Overall, the most prevalent issue about our project is that it's not particularly robust. Specifically, sometimes the bearings fall out of their wooden linkages. Our solution would have been to tighten the holes for the bearings in the wooden linkages of our leg mechanisms, and to press-fit the bearings into the linkages to ensure as tight of a connection as possible.
Additionally, we should have tightened the fit between the bearings at the bottom of the wheel legs and the wheel shafts in order to prevent the wheels from moving side-to-side.
If we'd had more time and team members, we could've had more iterations of our design, but overall we are very content with the final product.
