7. Conclusions & Future Work (GC)
Our project was relatively successful in accomplishing the intended goal of cleaning glasses with a linkage mechanism. However, many subsystems of the prototype were continuously modified as the project progressed due to unforeseen obstacles. Ultimately, this resulted in the final prototype being more of a first iteration prototype that can be further refined and improved in the future. If future improvements could be made to the prototype, they would consist of the following:
- Increased structural rigidity to ensure the only moving parts of the device are the links
- Prototyping fixed points for links to ensure the path generated by the link is a horizontal figure 8. This removes the need for the tilted base that is currently implemented into our prototype
- Implement mechanism to clean both sides of glasses
- Fix motor directly to structure to ensure the motor housing does not rotate as the motor is powered
- Minimize play between links
- Increase part precision
