1. Introduction

Technological advancement cuts through all facet of lives. As we move closer to cutting advancement in robotics studies, many robots are being made to do our work for us. Many proponent of this advancement make their case that it is a matter of ease, and saves us from doing unnecessary work. While the other school of thought believe that this will make people lazier, and less productive, because they will delegate their work to “robots”. According Wonderful Engineering, “autonomous gas pumps [charging point] are the next big thing.” The idea is the automate the process of filling your car up with gas, or charging your electric car automatically, without getting out of the car. One of the companies working on this interesting concept is Fuelmatics and one of their workers on this project Sten Corfitsen said : ‘People feel that refuelling is a boring necessity.

How it works:

The driver pulls up to the service station pump, and selects the fuel grade they want and how much the one, they pay for this with a credit card right in their car, very similar to the automated car wash station in gas stations now. The hose slides along a track to the proper position of the car. The owner of the car makes some purchases to make this work well, they have to change the gas compartment cap into a $9 capless fuel filter to make it possible to fill the car automatically. This machine also has sensors on it to help locate the gas compartment and fill it up appropriately. This device returns to the original position for the next car, it moves in along the x axis to locate the car, and a y position or the lift position to adjust to the height of the car, because all cars do not have the same gas compartment height. And finally there is a z axis movement which is the gas nozzle, with the capability of moving forward and retracting back to its original position.
