Connecting to the Server from a Windows Computer

IMPORTANT: Off-Campus Users Must First Connect to the UT VPN

If you are off-campus then you must first connect to the UT VPN service. If you do not do this first, the steps below will not work.

Open the "Remote Desktop Connection" Client program. On a Windows 10 computer the program is located in the Start menu under the "Windows Accessories" folder.

Connect to educ-vm-rds-tst.austin.utexas.edu in the Remote Desktop Connection client.

Confirm that you want to trust this server.

Enter your EID credentials with AUSTIN\ in front of your username. Then press the OK button to connect to the server.

  • If you get an access denied type of error message at this point then make sure you entered your UT EID username and password correctly and that you prefixed your EID username with "AUSTIN\" as shown in the screenshot. If you continue to receive this error message then that probably means you don't have access privileges to the server. Contact Dr. Rodriguez to gain access to the server.
  • If you receive an error message about the server not being reachable or that it is offline and you are off-campus, make sure you are currently connected to the UT VPN.

Connecting to the Server from a Mac Computer

IMPORTANT: Off-Campus Users Must First Connect to the UT VPN

If you are off-campus then you must first connect to the UT VPN service. If you do not do this first, the steps below will not work.

Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop app. This is included with the latest version of Microsoft Office for Mac or it can be downloaded and installed from the following link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id1295203466?mt=12.

Click on the Microsoft Remote Desktop app's top menu bar icon. In the window that appears, select the "Add PC" option.

In the "PC name" field enter: educ-vm-rds-tst.austin.utexas.edu

Then press the "Add" button.

Locate the PC you created in the previous step. Once found double-click on it to open it.

Enter your UT EID credentials with AUSTIN\ in front of your username. Then press the "Continue" button. Your computer should then initiate a Remote Desktop connection to the server.
