Information about UTMail.

  • UTMail is available to faculty, staff, and students.
  • UTMail is considered a personal account and should not be used for UT business email.
  • UT Business Microsoft 365 Email can not be forwarded to a personal account (UTmail, Gmail, ) or another institution.

"As announced by the Provost, automatic forwarding from UT email accounts to non-business email accounts will no longer be allowed and will be disabled programmatically beginning February 9th, 2021. This includes any personal accounts via UTmail, Gmail and/or utexas.edu. Per University policy, all employees must use official University of Texas email accounts for university business. Those who may have a nonemployee affiliation with the university, such as a contingent worker status, are not required to use official university email. If the above Destination Address(es) column contains solely University of Texas business email addresses, you may disregard this message."

Why is this policy in place?

  • The Texas Public Information Act makes some of our records, including emails, available to the public upon request. Using a personal email address means an employee's entire personal email record could be subject to open records. Emails sent or received by employees in the course of conducting university business are also subject to state records retention and security requirements.
  • University email accounts also provide a higher level of protection and security from cyberattacks and phishing scams, which have greatly increased since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
