Hiring Requirements (Undergrad and Graduate)

Undergraduates employees must:

  • Be in compliance with Enrollment Requirements
    • Exceptions can be made for graduating seniors who have less then FTE. They should reach out to their advisor for email confirmation that they are registered less then FTE because they are enrolled in only what is required for their degree program.
  • Have an up-to-date I-9 and Background Check with UGS
    • All student employees are required to have a social security number
  • Work no more than a combined 15 hours/week

If the student has a work-study award they would like to apply to their position at Sanger, they must submit a screenshot of their award by the assignment spreadsheet deadline. Students may apply their award to one position only.

Graduates employees must:

  • Be in compliance with Enrollment Requirements
  • Have an up-to-date I-9 and Background Check with UGS
    • All student employees are required to have a social security number
  • Register and pay for the current semester

Graduate students who have worked as Math Instructors cannot receive AIS/APS pay as well as be employed as a student employee. They may be paid only as one type of employee, student or contractor (APS).

Graduate students with a 20-hour TAship may have additional employment up to 30 hours/week IF they receive written email confirmation from their Graduate Advisor. The confirmation must be received before UGS HR is able to appoint the student. Appointment over 30 hours/week are not permitted.

Example of email confirmation:

Dear "Supervisor",

Thanks for asking. You have my approval to appoint "Student" (EID: "eid123") to 8 additional hours above her current 20 hour per week appointment. Feel free to contact me if you need additional information.

Best regards,

"Graduate Advisor"

GA requirements:

Same as above, GAs also must work 20 hours every week they are appointed. GAs are eligible for health insurance and will receive email notification directing them to the sign up directions - typically this information will get to them a couple weeks into the semester.

Graduate students assigned to work in a student academic title for at least 20 hours a week for at least 4.5 months (135 calendar days) are eligible for the university’s employee group insurance benefits. If they are not able to work a full 20 hours a week it could affect their eligibility to participate in the health insurance benefit.  We normally do not register GAs to attend the UT employee orientation as they do not qualify for many of the benefits offered.
