General Q & A
Q: Why is Configuration Manager seemingly slow at certain things?
A: Config Manager is built for scale and thus certain processes have randomization and longer cycles to ensure all clients aren't trying to perform the same task at the same time.
Schedules
Q: Can I change my client settings to check more frequently than what is currently configured? Are there any issues or consequences?
A: Some settings and the frequency in which they occur could impact the platform. In order to make client settings changes, submit a ServiceNow request to the Core EPM Team by sending email to epm-requests@its.utexas.edu The team will review them to ensure any changes made would not negatively impact the platform.
Updates
Q: Updates were released yesterday and should have installed overnight. Why are they still missing today?
A: If a computer was off when a maintenance window began, it will not install the updates until the next maintenance window. Even if a computer was turned on during the maintenance window, updates will not install until the next window. This can be an issue when users turn off their devices before maintenance windows occur. A way to mitigate this is through:
Deadline behavior: You can set software updates to install outside a maintenance window but leave the checkbox for restarts unchecked to avoid interrupting work. Then when the user next restarts their device the system will be compliant.
Note:
Objects you create in and for Configuration Manager must have your ITSO prefix before it. This helps objects stay unique across the site. Please do not forget this!
EPM is available to IT Support Organizations (ITSOs) with any endpoint management questions. If you have a question about a specific endpoint client, please reach out to your local endpoint client support organization.
