How to reboot Colossus if TCS fails
Go out to computer in dome
Try resetting TCS from the TCS GUI special menu: Special -> Reset TCS Monitor
If unable to reset TCS from menu...
- Left click black background behind TCS GUI
- Open xterm
- go to directory: cd /prod/bin
type: XMreboot <return>
- Wait a few minutes while Colossus restarts
- Once Colossus restarts login as follows: Login: (ask staff) Password: (ask staff)
Click "Activate" on TCS GUI
Press "E-Stop" on doom floor console
Go to the right side of the old control room and press "ON" for Dec. and HA, press "START" for hydraulic bearings
Press "Reset" on dome floor console
Use TCS GUI menu to slew telescope to zenith: Next -> Zenith -> click Yes on warning dialog box
Raise east Platform
Turn on laser on north-east side of bottom of the telescope tube by pushing the button on it
Be sure the laser aligns with the black dot on the wall. If not, adjust telescope position with hand-paddle until it is aligned.
Lower east platform
Restart TCS again from TCS GUI menu: Special -> Restart TCS Monitor
Reset console again...
Go to the right side of the old control room and press "ON" for Dec. and HA, press "START" for hydraulic bearings
Press "Reset" on dome floor console
Manually move the telescope with the hand-paddle off the zenith some amount so that the laser is not aligned with the black dot on the wall
Go back to zenith using the TCS GUI (not the hand-paddle): Next -> Zenith -> click Yes on warning
The laser should again be aligned with the black dot on the wall. If not, you are going to have to redo all the procedures above again or your telescope pointing could be off.
Raise east platform
Turn off laser
Lower east platform
You are now done
