(WIP) Canopy 22-24
Materials used
- 4 ply carbon fiber
- 4 ply fiberglass
- Because carbon fiber is conductive, we made part of our canopy out of fiberglass so radio waves could enter and exit through the canopy
- 2 ply kevlar
- Kaneka resin
Step-by-step guide
Mold Prep
- Sanded fiberglass mold to 400 grit sandpaper with orbital sanders on flat surfaces and hand sanding for curves. We used Bondo to fill in any gaps.
- We used __ layers of wax and __ layers of frekote
- This did NOT work as mold release at all. It was very stuck
- We hypothesize that it failed because we did not use a resin topcoat for the canopy
Layup
- Laid carbon fiber on the sides and fiberglass on the top
