2.2 Clipping VIDEOS Using Quicktime Player
Video on how to clip using Quicktime Player
STEPS | PROCESS | TO DO |
1 | Decide what patients need video clippings | You will either be assigned a participant or you can search on the Main CS Smartsheet for a participant
*Note that not all participants have videos and therefor do not need to be clipped |
1.1 | Verify which patient tasks have been clipped and which ones still need to be clipped | Most Pre-R01 cases will have all video tasks clipped already, but always check the Main CS Smartsheet to make sure
You can also use the R01 Clipping List and Pre-R01 Clipping List as references for which tasks have been clipped for each patient and in which languages |
2 | Locate the patient video folder | You have two options:
Participant Video Folder and open the Therapy Trial or Observational/Healthy Controls sub-folder to find the original video folder associated with the patient
Or
|
2.1 | Decide which timepoint needs to be clipped (i.e.: Pre, Post, 3mo, 6mo, 12mo) | After finding the patient folder, click on the timepoint sub-folder associated with the task you want to clip; The sub-folder options are:
*The original videos for 3MoFU, 6MoFU, and 12MoFU are located in the seguiementos sub-folder |
2.2 | Decide which patient task to clip and in what language | Once you find the timepoint needed, search for the video files associated with the task’s language (Cat, Spa, or Eng) |
3 | Search through each of the videos in the selected language to find the task | You will need to skim through each video file in the desired language to find which file has the task you’re searching for
*You do not need to watch the video file in its entirety **If you’re unable to find the task in any of the files after double checking, indicate this on the Main CS Smartsheet and or inform your supervisor on the task
What each task looks like:
WAB Picnic Scene: *Some videos of this task have a different image but it's very similar
CatRescue:
Important Event: This task does not have a slide associated with it, so you will have to skim through the audio to find this task (Usually the part of the video that shows only the clinician and patient)
MINT: *Typically, this task will start with an image of a drum |
4 | Download the file that the tasks are located | Download the appropriate video file |
5 | Open QuickTime Player | There are two ways to do this: Open QuickTime Player by either finding the app on your computer, selecting the file option in the top left hand corner of your computer, selecting “Open file...,” and selecting the correct video file OR Right clicking on the downloaded file, selecting “Show in Finder, Right clicking on the file name, selecting “open with,” and then selecting QuickTime Player |
6 | Find the start and end times of the task you plan on clipping |
|
7 | Fully listen to the task | Press play and listen to the entirety of the video |
7.1 | Clip out any clinician speech and patient speech not related to the task | If applicable:
a. If the option to split clip is not available, quickly press play and pause; it should be available after doing this
a. When selected, the section will have a yellow boarder b. To ensure it’s the correct section, slide the red curser to that section and listen for unnecessary speech
|
8 | Fully listen to the new clipping | Listen to the video once more to ensure that all non-task-related speech has been clipped out |
8.1 | Clip out any missed non-task-related speech | If any clinician or unnecessary patient speech remains, repeat step 7.1 |
9 | Save the new clipping using the proper naming convention | Select file on the top left corner of your computer and select “Save...” from the drop-down options
Naming Convention: PatientCode_TimePoint_Task_Language |
10 | Find the patient folder for video task clippings | Two options:
"1. Participant Video" or "PreR01 Connected Speech Clipping" folder, respectively, and look for the participant code a. Note for the R01 folder, you will have to click the observational or therapy trial subfolder to find the patient video folder |
10.1 | Find the appropriate timepoint folder | Follow step 2.1 |
11 | Upload the new clipping | Select the new participant video clipping and upload it to the correct timepoint folder under the proper naming convention |
11.1 | Rewatch clipping one last time | Ensure the new clipping includes all participant speech related to the desired task; Make sure all clinician speech is deleted |
12 | Update Main CS smartsheet to indicate that the clipping has been finished |
a. You may have to press the + next to the participant code to see all the timepoints
a. Ex: “CatRescue Castellano,” “Who Clipped CatRescue Castellano,” and “CatRescue Castellano Clinician seaking in Sample?” |
12.1 | Save any changes being made to the smartsheet | Make sure to save any changes you make to the Main CS Smartsheet |
12.2 | Update Supervisors that the task’s video has been clipped and send a non-expiring link | Send a quick message in the appropriate teams' channel to inform those involved that the task video has been clipped; make sure to send a non-expiring link so that others can find the location of the new clipping
