VI. Leaving UT Austin
Faculty who leave the University should resolve their academic and research responsibilities in order to exit the University in good standing.
A. Instructional Responsibilities
- Make arrangements for any graduate students who will need to be accommodated in other research groups.
- Request an adjunct appointment to continue supervising graduate students who are nearing completion of their degree, and/or
- Make sure all teaching-related duties are completed. Â
- All grades should be finalized, and any student complaints or other issues should be resolved.
B. Sponsored Projects and Accounts
- Contact spaa@austin.utexas.edu to transfer or terminate sponsored projects and to finalize any financial requirements.
- Transfer a grant/award to another institution.
C. EHS Lab Close-Out Protocol
- Laboratory spaces should be cleaned up and any safety issues checked with the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
- Contact Rodolfo (Rudy) Guerrero, EHS Lab Safety Manager, to initiate close-out procedures.

D. Animal & Human Subjects
- Clear all UT Austin research projects involving human subjects or animals.
- Costs associated with transfer of animal colonies and/or animal care must be worked out.Â
- All vivarium spaces should be cleaned up.Â
- Contact Glen Otto, Director of the Animal Resources Center, to initiate close-out procedures.
E. Inventory
- An inventory check should be done to account for all UT inventory and to remove items from the inventory that have been negotiated for transfer to another institution.
- Negotiation for and plan for distribution of inventoried items must be discussed and negotiated with the Department Chair at least one month prior to departure.
