1. Introduction of Wild Wild West
The Wild Wild West mechanism (Figure 1) is a model from the book Karakuri by Keisuke Saka. Using the book, I created the model using stiff paper and glue. The input is a rotational input from the user and the output is the rotation of a large disk that moves a train. The purpose of the mechanism is to change the plane of rotation such that the input motion is easier to apply. Additionally, it increases the speed of the output – the train moves faster than the user’s hand.
