Mounting Board

The mounting board was made of 1/8" acrylic. We decided upon this thickness in order to make it easier to attach various components onto our mounting board. Several of our brackets utilize M3 screws; these are usually fairly small in length. 1/4" acrylic would have been too thick to use commonly sized M3 screws. A picture of the mounting board can be seen below.

Depending on the size screw used for mounting a component, the mounting board would be adjusted accordingly. Some mounting holes were dimensioned highly specifically to maintain knowledge of their location in reference to each other. This is highly useful to know for the purpose of kinematic analysis when defining the location of pin joints. Other mounting holes contained a fixed orientation, but could be translated along the plane of the mounting board in order to properly position them relative to our device. The xylophone keys specifically needed to be placed in such a way that the mallet did not impact it too hard based upon the design of the cam.
