Team 8: Introduction and Background
The idea of a stamping mechanism came to us by being fascinated with the concept of a system that included closed-loop automation which incorporated a 6-bar mechanism. With an understanding of the kinematics of mechanisms and basic mechanical movement to perform a task, we decided to incorporate a conveyor belt subsystem as well to showcase how the fundamentals learned in this class can work alongside each other simultaneously. In other words, the conveyor belt moves continuously while the stamping occurs incrementally. The mechanism would have to be sturdy to withstand a stamp and be automated, which was where the challenge of this project came into play.
The picture below presents where our group got the inspiration to create this project. The image consists of an automated system that handles scrap from the point of generation and keeps the area clean.
