Volz O'Connell Hutson born-digital processing
The born digital records in the VOH collection document the firm’s numerous historic preservation projects, including the Neill-Cochran House Museum, the Winedale Historical Complex, the Elisabet Ney Museum, and thirteen Texas county courthouses. These materials include of an assortment of magnetic (3.5” floppy disks, zip disks) and optical media (CD-Rs). In phase I of born-digital processing, the Alexander Architectural Archives’ goal is to document and preserve media content at the bit-level. Broadly, accomplishing said goal entails assigning IDs (where not already assigned ID within original numbering system), photographing and imaging each piece of media, placing file outputs within their corresponding directories, and “bagging” each top-level directory for secure transfer to UT Libraries' Digital Stewardship unit for vaulting to tape.
