Cloud-based Virtual Desktop Access for Mac Users
PLEASE NOTE: THIS SERVICE IS ONLY FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN A CHE CLASS WHERE ASPEN or DECISION TOOLS (@RISK) IS REQUIRED, AND NO ACCESS TO A WINDOWS LAPTOP. IT SHOULD ONLY BE USED DURING CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION
WHERE THERE IS NO OTHER ACCESS TO ASPEN or @RISK. AFTER CLASS, PLEASE USE THE COMPUTER LABS IN CPE TO COMPLETE YOUR ASPEN or @RISK HOMEWORK, IF THIS IS AN OPTION. THE DEPARTMENT IS BILLED HOURLY WHEN LOGGED INTO THE
VIRTUAL DESKTOP. YOUR EID WILL NEED TO BE SUBMITTED BY YOUR PROFESSOR OR TA BEFORE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE VIRTUAL DESKTOP. THANK YOU.
This article will walk you through the steps of accessing the Virtual Desktop via a web browser. NOTE: YOU MUST follow the OneDrive setup steps, since that is the only way you will be able to access and save your files within the Virtual Desktop!
- First verify that you have an Office 365 account:
- navigate to https://office365.austin.utexas.edu/
- click "Office 365 Management" and logon with your EID
c. Take note of your primary email address. You will need this to set up Microsoft OneDrive folder access in the virtual desktop
2. Using Safari, Firefox, or Chrome, navigate to: https://myapplications.microsoft.com
3. Sign in using the email address that was shown in Office 365 Management:
4. You should be redirected to a UT logon page, where you will logon with your EID password
5. Locate and click on the icon labeled "CHEE-AppS"
6. Click on the Desktop icon
7. Your virtual desktop session will now be started. Be patient, as this can take up to 2 minutes
8. On the top white menu bar, click the folder icon
9. Click "Add Storage", then click "OneDrive"
10. Under "Login accounts" click the name that matches your email address that you noted in in Step 1c
11. Follow the prompts to authenticate with your EID password
12. Open File Explorer, click This PC, and make sure your OneDrive folder appears there. When saving files within Aspen, this is the location you will save to. You can also logon to https://onedrive.live.com with your Office 365 account and upload files you would like to open with the Virtual Desktop.
