Change to start and end dates for summer 2024 academic appointments

Effective in fall 2024, fall semester dates will change from 9-1-1/15 to 8/16-12/31. See more information at askUS: Faculty and Graduate Student Worker Appointment Date Changes.

To accommodate the earlier fall start, summer 2024 dates will change as follows:

University policy

All summer faculty appointments should reflect the guiding principles set by the President and Provost: (1) faculty should be compensated for effort worked; (2) faculty may not be double-paid for effort in the 8/16/2024-8/31/2024 timeframe.

Faculty summer insurance coverage and the Pre-Payment Cancellation Form

For summer 2024, deadlines (based on 6/1-8/15 summer employment dates) and processes will remain the same as for past years. 

If a faculty member will have a summer job from June 1-August 15 and the department completes that job in Workday by May 20, the faculty member will not have to pre-pay any out-of-pocket summer premiums due, and premiums will instead be deducted from their monthly pay.

If the benefits eligible summer job is not completed in Workday by May 20, or if the faculty member will have another benefits eligible job that will extend through the summer, they may request to have their pre-payment canceled by submitting the Cancellation of Pre-Payment for Summer Insurance Coverage form and uploading documentation that they will have a benefits eligible summer job no later than May 13.
