Confluence Cloud Migration

The University Wiki Serivice will migrate from Confluence Data Center to Confluence Cloud on May 24th, 2024.

The migration to Confluence Cloud will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will be complete before Monday, May 27th at 8:00 a.m.  You will be able to access your spaces, but any changes to spaces after 5:00 p.m. on the current Confluence Data Center site will be lost.

Click here to view Atlassian's documentation listing the differences between Confluence Cloud and Data Center.

Atlassian has provided free training help users familiarize themselves with the Confluence Cloud interface.

For support during the migration please join the University Wiki Service Teams channel for assistance.

New Login Experience

When logging in to Confluence Cloud, please use your IID (Institutional Identifier, example: youreid@eid.utexas.edu) rather than your normal email address.

The University Wiki Service will have a new URL post-migration: cloud.wikis.utexas.edu (this will not be active until after the migration is complete).  However, wikis.utexas.edu will redirect to the new cloud URL.

To login please click the login button in the top corner of the screen:

You will be prompted to provide your email address, you will need to use your IID (youreid@eid.utexas.edu):

Once you enter your IID, you will be directed to UT Austin's Enterprise Authentication where you will use your EID and Duo to authenticate.

First Time Login

When logging in to Confluence Cloud for the first time you may see a screen that states you need to check your inbox to finish the signup process.  Due to the way existing accounts are migrated from Confluence Data Center to Confluence Cloud, you will need to click on the "Resend signup link" button to receive your verification email.

You should receive an email directly after clicking on the resend link.  The page will look like this:

Confluence Cloud Welcome Experience

When successfully logging into Confluence Cloud for the first time, after verifying your email address, you will complete the Confluence Cloud welcome experience.

The first screen you will see is the welcome screen where you will be asked to describe what work your team does, you can skip this section.

You will then be asked to find a space that you normally work within.  You can choose the space University Wiki Service if you do not have a wiki space you use regularly.

You will see a Welcome to Confluence Cloud Premium page next.  This will introduce you to some of the new features within Confluence Cloud.  Feel free to dismiss this section if you wish.

Next you may see an introduction to Content Formatting Macros for Confluence.  This is a plugin which bundles many useful macros which has been used within the University Wiki Service for many years.  Feel free to click No thanks if you wish.

Post-Migration Index

If you attempt to log in to the University Wiki Service directly after the migration, you may receive a message that the database is taking a little longer than normal to sync up.  This is caused by the post-migration indexing and should be finished before Monday May 27th at 8:00 a.m.

Testers received this message for less than a minute while logging in post-migration during testing.  If you receive this message, please reach out to the University Wiki Service team if you have been waiting for more than 5 minutes.
