Chief Engineer
Sent the Mechanical email to Bill and Brian
Mech leads please draft up responses to anything you want to respond to
I have created NextGen PVDR, VDR, Battery, BPS, and Array Technical Documents in Sharepoint. As soon as we are able to submit these forms, we should do so.
I want Mechanical to submit PVDR as soon as possible after PDR, so as you make decisions I think it would be best to slowly fill in PVDR
I’ve been noticing lately that workday attendance isn’t the greatest. A pretty sizable portion of people are missing every workday which concerns me, especially when as we start to approach major deadlines. What do y’all think we can do to help fix this problem?
Emech reorg: what do we want to do?
Ishan, Jason, Advait, and I worked on the array calculations. They are pushed in the GitHub under the “Vehicle Model” repository. Though our model was probably not accurate, the general conclusion we came to was that the added weight of increasing the area of the topshell
System Updates
Controls:
Updates
Selected brake pedal sensor
Order placed for display, cameras, all the auxiliary stuff
Week Plan
Mika working on dash component footprints
Lucy working on schematic draft done by Friday
Maddie and Krish addressing last of review comments on schematic
Upcoming Deadlines
BPS:
Updates
Good progress on boards
Abby and Clark got a semi-reviewable schematic of their boards done
Nathan picked his chips for Amperes
Week Plan
Nathan, Clark, Abby, and Michael will address their reviews
(assuming no nucleo shenanigans) Phoenix will start working with FreeRTOS stuff
Aneri will fix her SPI header and get regular SPI on a logic analyzer
Kadhir will get his ideas down for usb-c PD test board and have some of his chips picked out
Upcoming Deadlines
Power Generation:
Updates
blackbody C car location planning
i2c architecture
kicad for blackbody c
constant current boards
more mppt schematics review, ready for second round review
tong’s solar simulator schematics reviewed, continuing dev. selected LED. may be buying a new power supply.
Week Plan
finish 2nd round MPPT sensors schematics review
decide on i2c architecture
Upcoming Deadlines
Data Acquisition:
Updates
Victoria & Amanda: Worked on reward function. Working on integrating a generic array + battery.
Aayush: Working on rf receiver board
Adiv: Working on IMU + wheel rpm board
Matthew: Continued work on Leaderboard
Week Plan
Move one foot in front of the other!
Upcoming Deadlines
Power Systems:
Updates
Frank & Carolyn: Power Board sch reviewed and approved. Layout started.
Ravi: Environment board and breakout board layout reviewed. Starting on firmware.
Shaun: I2C BSP working on CubeIDE. Working on moving libraries over to LHR embedded environment.
Jacob & Tony: looked into potential software approach to active precharge and got layout reviewed. Working on changes.
Watts & Changxu: working on eFuse testboard. Sch complete and layout almost complete.
Week Plan
Get power board layout done by EOW.
Order environment board (and breakout).
Go up to pickle (on friday possibly) and fix Daybreak’s wiring (with wire harnessing subsystem and maybe some power systems kids)
Upcoming Deadlines
Electromechanical:
Updates
2 Battery Layups Done
Acetone enclosure ready to manufacture
Locks redone - adding some nice to have features
Good progress on daybreak bb intake/exhaust
Battery Box airflow cutouts on front/back panels made
Universal enclosure with mounting and gasket printed and works with latch mechanism
will try to print with abs and put it into acetone enclosure
Week Plan
Try to rewire as much of daybreak as possible and get all critical hardware inside
Add structural brackets back into the old battery
Start cell characterization and sample module manufacturing
Starting new HV Dist enclosure design
Design review of projects (cooling)
Upcoming Deadlines
Body:
Updates
Driver measuring happening this weekend
1st frame iteration set to finish Saturday → sims soon
Composite research/knowledge base progressing
Week Plan
Frame
Compile next steps for composites research
Ansys learning → start in week, formally happening this/next workday
Keep working on 1st iteration
Ergo
Pedal jig testing (pedal ratio, tolerance testing, etc)
Begin steering wheel research → design plan soon
Upcoming Deadlines
Dynamics:
Updates
Unsprung - Worked on solving loads on the hub axle
Suspension - Each member was given a part of suspension to look further into
Steering - Created a decision matrix for steering racks and upper steering architecture
Week Plan
Unsprung:
Finalize brakes, and rotor configuration
Caliper and motor mount for Swingarm
Choose Bearings
Finalize hub size for horizontal stackup
Steering:
Bump Steer design optimization
Talk to Jacob on how to fix his code. Try to look through the actual math to see if there is an error going on there
Suspension:
Have an understanding on how to solve for forces in components – control arms, pushrods, bell crank
Something I’m trying this week
New structure of dynamics meeting where members post their updates with a photo. Allows everyone to learn a little bit more about the other subsystems along with progress photos. It also allows for them to have smth to put on their portfolio. I want thoughts on this
Sleeping maybe? Have not been hitting this deadline
What I need from other systems
For one person who is going to pickle. I would like to find the amount the steering rack moves for 360 degrees of rotation of the steering wheel. To do this, I need someone to mark the steering rack (something that will rotate from the steering) and something that is static with the steering rack. Can explain better in person.
Can someone who has access to add people to Github add Sohan Kureti to solar Github?
Upcoming Deadlines
Aeroshell:
Updates
Aerodynamics - Proposed more designs for CAD, people got deeper into their designs and concepts. Continued work on aeroshell CAD
Composites - Did battery box layup
Washed the metal sheet (new one bc somehow the old one got scratched)
Week Plan
Aerodynamics - First half Matthew will teach ANSYS to everyone
Nose, Tail, Canopy, and Wheel Covers will sim designs they have previously cadded
Canopy hinge and shell to shell will CAD the designs that they have mentioned to us
Composites
Finish battery box layup
Do first test composite panel layup w/ aluminum honeycomb?!?
sand the metal sheet some more. also bondo the metal sheet
will work on designing test fixtures for composite panels
figure out what tests we want to do on small scale for resin infusion so that we can start doing larger scale tests
