| Year 3 | Refers to the third year of Dell Medical School, which takes place from July to June. |
| MS3 | Also refers to the third year of Dell Medical School. May also be used to describe a third-year student (e.g. MS3 student). "MS-3" is also used. |
| Growth Year | Also refers to the third year of Dell Medical School. Years 1 through 4 spell out an acronym: EDGE (1=Essentials, 2=Delivery, 3=Growth, 4=Exploration) |
| Intersession(s) | Refers to the day-long educational events that are required for all third-year medical students. There are four intersession days in the third year. |
| ILD | "Innovation, Leadership and Discovery", the name of the nine-month course which takes place from August to May of the third year. Students complete either a dual degree or distinction in order to meet ILD requirements. Traditional medical school students complete clinical rotations during their third year; Dell Med is fairly unique in that our students complete a dual degree or distinction program. |

| Step 1 | Refers to the specific board licensing exam. |
| Step 2 CK | "Step 2 Clinical Knowledge". Refers to the specific board licensing exams the students take before or during their third year. |
| IPE | Refers to the longitudinal "Interprofessional Education" course students take during all four years of medical school. |
| DOCS | Refers to the longitudinal "Developing Outstanding Clinical Skills" course students take during all four years of medical school |
| Clerkship | Also called "clinical rotation". It is a course of clinical medical training in a specialty (as pediatrics, internal medicine, or psychiatry) that usually lasts a minimum of several weeks and takes place during the third or fourth year of medical school. Dell Medical Students have a Primary Care clerkship in their third year. |
| UME | "Undergraduate Medical Education". Refers to the first four years of medical school, before residency. Even though they are graduate students (beyond Bachelor's) in the eyes of UT, they are seen as undergraduates in the medical school world. |
| OSCE | "Objective Structured Clinical Examination". A versatile multipurpose evaluative tool that can be utilized to assess health care professionals in a clinical setting. It assesses competency, based on objective testing through direct observation. |
| CPX | "Clinical Performance Exam". The OSCE that students take in the spring of their third year. |
| SPH | Refers to the UT School of Public Health, a separate entity from UT Austin. |
| C/NCR | "Credit/No Credit" grading basis. |
