Office of Public Affairs
About Us
The public affairs team promotes the life and work of the College of Liberal Arts to the news media, alumni, general public and the university community. We also publish the college's award-winning alumni magazine, Life & Letters, which highlights the research and intellectual life of our faculty and students and the accomplishments of alumni around the world. Our services include:
Media Relations
Serving as the main liaison between the news media and the college, we are responsible for writing and distributing event advisories and news releases to the media. We contribute to the university-wide experts guide, an online listing of faculty experts who are available to discuss their research with the media. In addition, we provide media with targeted faculty experts lists in response to major breaking news. We track media coverage of our faculty and provide daily reports.
Publications
We write web features, research and book blogs, and magazine stories for Life & Letters, the college's alumni magazine. Life & Letters profiles faculty research, as well as accomplished alumni and students who excel both in and out of the classroom. It is published twice a year and distributed to alumni, faculty members, and friends of the college. Visit the magazine's website to read past and present feature stories, as well as updates on faculty, staff, and student news.
Our office can serve as a resource as you create your next print or e-newsletter providing project management, designer recommendations, and copyediting.
Branding
Public Affairs oversees the college's brand, and can advise you on the use of logos, wordmarks and color schemes for both print and web-based projects.
Web Communications
We manage the college's website, which includes feature stories, press releases and calendar events. We also maintain the college's Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages, among others.
Media Training
We offer one-on-one interview preparation and advice. We also offer guidance on writing and submitting op-ed stories in news publications.
Photo and Video Services
We maintain a database of faculty headshots, as well as a small library of campus and college photos for publications. For photography and video productions, we collaborate with University Communications and Liberal Arts Instructional Technology Services. Depending on your needs, our office is also available to recommend freelance photographers. Additional fees may apply.
Other Services
Additional resources are available on the college's public affairs page. University Communications also provides a wide range of services to create tailored promotional materials for academic programs and events. We also work with the university's governmental relations team to respond to questions from the legislative and executive branches of local, state, and federal government.
