STEPS FOR SPECIAL COLLECTIONS ITEMS
You should always pull it up in sierra to see if it is the only copy available. In some cases you may want to see if there are other editions available not in special collections.
If so ask the patron if other editions are satisfactory.
If they need that edition or if it is the only one we have then please do the following:
- Write down the title, call #, and size.
- check to see when it was last checked out.
- Hand it to a supervisor to retrieve the book.
While the supervisor is getting the item please review special collections rules with the patron.- When the supervisor returns with the item, check it out to the patron. If they do not have a UT ID hold a driver’s license until the item is returned.
- Carry the item out to the special collections desk for the patron. If needed take a pillow to support the item.
- When the item is returned check it in and place on the special collections reshelving shelves.
Remember items are in special collections because they are rare, fragile, really expensive, or all of the above. Handle them appropriately. Otherwise very carefully.
