Printing Spine Labels with Sierra
- Double click the “PW Service Labels” icon on the desktop
- If a box with the text “Print Wizard is running in demo mode…” appears, you will not be able to use the program until you are authorized by MCS. Tell your supervisor.
- If a box with the text “Could not initialize Listen Service Labels,” it is likely someone else is still logged on to the computer and has the program activated. If the other user is not available to close the program under their logon, restart the computer.
- Open the item record in Sierra
- Click “Tools” [upper left]
- Click “Queue Monographic Labels to Print”
- Close the item record
You can order labels for multiple books before moving on to the next step.
- Click “Create Lists” [lower left]
- Click on an “Empty” list
- Because of a rare glitch, it is best if you can find one between two other empty lists
- If the lists are grey instead of black, you will need authorization. Tell your supervisor.
- Click “Copy” [upper right]
- Find and click on your list. It will probably be near the bottom and worded as “Labels for batch printing for [your logon initials]”
- Click “OK”
- A box will appear with the text “Do you want to remove the file being copied from?”
- Click “Yes”

- Double click on your list.
- Click “File” [upper left in the new window]
- Choose “Select Printer” and then “Standard Printer”
- Click on “ARCH Print Wizard” and then click “OK”
- Click “File” [upper left in the new window]
- Click “Print Continuous Labels”
- Click “Edit labels for printing”
- Edit the labels by typing in the yellow boxes
- Pay special attention to oversized items, long numbers, or decimal points
- Click “Print”
- Place a sheet of label paper into the bottom printer drawer. Lay the labels face down, with the narrow side to the left.
- Eventually, a white box with red lines will appear, representing the labels as they will look on the sheet.
- You may have to wait up to 3-4 minutes for the box to open.
- You can start the labels in another box by right clicking on the box you want to use and choosing “Start Labels Here.”
- Click “Print” [bottom]
- Close the extra Print Wizard and Sierra windows until you are back at the list of lists
- Click your list name
- Click “Empty” [top right]
- Click “Yes” in response to the prompt “Are you sure you want to empty [your list name]”
