Overview

*DPUSER is a mainframe application that supports a wide range of university applications and processes, including information about users, departments, applications, files, and application authorizations.

All Mainframe users can view *DPUSER. Only designated department contacts can use *DPUSER to create, unlock, and maintain mainframe logon IDs for users in their units.

Guidance for all Mainframe users

Commands in *DPUSER

Use the "UM" command in *DPUSER to see all options. The most commonly-used commands are:

  • UP: View/Change User ID Profile (lock/unlock a user ID or request a password reset) or change Logon ID activation hours

  • UN: Add New User ID

  • UD: Delete User ID

  • UI: View list of all user IDs (past and present) for a particular user by User ID or EID

Look up *DPUSER department contacts

*DPUSER department contacts can create new Mainframe user IDs, unlock and lock user IDs, reset passwords, and change Mainframe activation hours.

The HRMS Employee Authorizations site can still be used to locate your department contacts. 

To find your department contacts:

  1. Go to the HRMS Employee Authorizations website.

  2. Enter your UT EID in the Employee UT EID field.

  3. Click "Go."

  4. Go to the Mainframe Logon Authorizations and Roles section to view your mainframe logon contacts.

If your contacts are not available, call the ITS Help Desk at 512-475-9400.

Guidance for *DPUSER department contacts

Use UT Direct to see *DPUSER authorizations and roles

*DPUSER contacts can see view their authorizations and roles in UT Direct (HRMS) by following these steps:

  1. Go to HRMS: Employee Authorizations.

  2. Enter Employee EID in the appropriate field.

  3. Under "Mainframe Logon Authorizations and Roles," click on "*DPUSER".

Change Mainframe activation hours

*DPUSER department contacts can change the activation hours for *DEFINE users to access the mainframe by following these steps:

  1. Go to the *DPUSER application.

  2. Type "UP" in the Command field.

  3. Type the user's mainframe logon ID in the UserID/Dept field. Press ENTER.

  4. Make your changes in the Logon ID Activation Hours section. Press ENTER.

    Note: To give 24/7 access to the *DEFINE user, change the hours to 00:00 to 24:00 for both Weekdays and Weekends. 

Create a new Mainframe user ID

*DPUSER department contacts can create new user IDs by following these steps:

  1. Go to the *DPUSER application. 

  2. Type "UN" in the Command field.

  3. Determine what the new user's user ID will be. Typically, this will consist of a two-character unit abbreviation followed by 2-3 letters for the user's initials. User IDs should follow a consistent pattern within a unit. 

    • For example, Department of Curriculum and Instruction employee Terry Dactyl might have the user ID "CITD." It would be expected that all other Mainframe users in this department would have user IDs beginning with "CI."

  4. Enter this new user ID in filed "User ID/Dept." If that letter combination is already taken, you will be prompted to create a different one.  Press ENTER.

  5. Enter the new user's EID in field "UT EID," and confirm when prompted.

  6. Set Logon ID Activation Hours for the hours for which they will need Mainframe access. 

    • If appropriate to their position, 24/7 access can be assigned by setting the hours to 00:00 to 24:00 for both Weekdays and Weekends. 

  7. In section "Add Logon ID," select the subsystem(s), or "COM-PLETE" to which the user will need access based on their job responsibilities. This is the COM-PLETE they will use to login from the Mainframe Application menu.

    1. Students: User's work in the Mainframe will be primarily student-related

    2. Fiscal: User's work in the Mainframe will be primarily financial and accounting-related

    3. Develop: User's work in the Mainframe will be primarily related to software development

  8. Notify the user of their user ID, and that their account has been created. They will need to log on to the Mainframe within 14 days of user ID creation, or the account will lock. (The *DPUSER department contact can unlock it.)

Unlock a Mainframe user ID

After 45 days of inactivity, a user ID may be locked by the system.

*DPUSER department contacts can unlock mainframe logon IDs in *DPUSER by following these steps:

  1. Type "UP" in the Command field.

  2. Enter the user’s logon ID in the User ID/Dept field and press ENTER.

  3. Enter "N" (Normal Status) in the UserID Status field and press ENTER.

Delete a Mainframe user ID

*DPUSER department contacts can delete a User ID and all authorizations in Command screen "UD."
