Outlook: Remove your Profile


Follow these steps if you are having problems with Outlook opening, Outlook no longer syncs email, you can no longer search for emails or other issues that impact usage.

Remove a profile

Applies To: Outlook 2016 Outlook 2013 Outlook 2010 Outlook 2007

A profile consists of accounts, data files, and settings that specify where your email messages are saved.

1.     Exit Outlook.

2.    Open Control Panel by doing one of the following:

  • In Windows 8 and Windows 10, choose Start and type Control Panel.
  • In Windows Vista and Windows 7, choose Start > Control Panel.

3.    Open Mail by doing one of the following:

  • In Windows 10, choose User Accounts > Mail.
  • In all other versions of Windows, choose Mail.

4.    Choose Show Profiles.

5.    Select a profile. (There should only be one)

6.    Click Remove.

 

Note: Outlook may warn you that deleting your profile will remove offline data.

You won't lose any information stored in your Outlook Data Files (.pst) or any information stored in your online accounts, for example Office 365 accounts.
