Overview
This is the design document for the Dashboard redesign for Daybreak.
Problemo
The current dashboard is very messy and suboptimal, needs to be fixed.
Ideas
There are 2 main ideas for the redesign. Either a giant PCB that is the entire dashboard, or a modular design where the physical dashboard is laser cut or something, and there is a breakout board that can be placed wherever is most optimal for wiring
Solution
This will be successful if it looks cool and works well
Design options
There are 2 main ways of doing this redesign
| Option 1 - Big PCB | Option 2 - Modular Setup |
---|---|---|
Overview | Essentially the Dashboard is just a giant PCB and will have connectors on it to where things need to be connected | The buttons and peripherals are separate from the PCB, and will be short distance wired to a smaller breakout PCB that will be secured somewhere behind the dashboard |
Pros and cons | Simplicity Less Wires Not modular |
Dashboard Requirements
Backup Monitor
Main Monitor
Supplemental Battery On/Off Switch
Turn signal switches
Regen Button
Cruse Enable/Disable & Set
Ignition Switch
BPS Fault LED
Gear
Connectors for the big switch in the middle
Turn indicators come from different board.
– No display connection due to different pwr & gnd isolation and noise isolation for data transfer, would end up being just a input connector to output connector.
New additions
Fan connection
