Peer-Led Undergraduate Studying (PLUS)

Senior Preceptor

 

Purpose: 

The PLUS Senior Preceptor (SP) works with their PLUS-supported professor, PLUS program coordinator, and preceptors to coordinate and execute the PLUS program. SPs manage their pod of preceptors, facilitates weekly planning meetings, conducts observations, and facilitates professional development activities and trainings.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise approximately 4-15 preceptors.
  • Plan and lead weekly planning meetings with your PLUS-professor and preceptors, and conduct ongoing training and professional development activities.
  • Create or improve upon existing weekly study group agendas.
  • Participate in required SP training sessions and meetings.
  • Conduct preceptor leader observations and provide (written and oral) feedback.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor.
  • Complete administrative tasks in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic departments as needed.

 

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the SP position, applicants must be:

  • Full-time undergraduate students.
  • Available to participate in pre-semester training and bi-weekly SP meetings.
  • Familiar with the PLUS program and collaborative learning; previous experience as a preceptor is required*.
  • Interested in peer mentorship, collaborative learning, and leaving a positive impression on those around you.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above at beginning of employment semester.

 

*exceptions exist (adding a new professor or course to PLUS, when the candidate comes highly recommended by the professor) and are evaluated on a case by case basis

Commitment and Compensation:

SPs work on average ~ 2-5 hours per week at a rate of $11 per hour, for semester payment totaling $300-700.  Continued employment throughout the semester is contingent upon satisfactory fulfillment of duties as determined by professional staff supervisor.
