B.1 Years of Probationary Service at UT Austin

In accordance with Regents’ Rule 31007, a tenure-track faculty member accrues one year of probationary service at UT Austin for every nine months (September 1 through May 31)1 of full-time academic service during an academic year. 

An academic year does not count as a year of probationary service if the tenure-track faculty member:

(1) begins employment at UT Austin after the start of the fall term,

(2) receives an approved extension to the probationary period, or

(3) has been on leave without pay for any portion of the fall or spring terms.

The timing of the mandatory review for tenure-track faculty with a joint appointment in the Dell Medical School, regardless of whether the candidate’s primary or secondary appointment resides in the Dell Medical School, corresponds to the years of probationary service defined in these Guidelines, rather than the timeline defined for faculty who are solely appointed in the Dell Medical School.


1Beginning in the 2024-25 academic year, the dates of nine-month, academic appointments will shift to August 16 through May 15.
