G.10 Letters from External Reviewers
The dossier must include at least five letters from external review letters who satisfy the qualifications outlined in Section D.10(a). The emphasis of the review is to evaluate the candidate's research contributions and related accomplishments, assess their trajectory for continuing excellence, and summarize their professional standing in the field.
Sample solicitation letters for tenured/tenure-track faculty candidates appear below:
For tenured associate professor candidates who have been in rank at UT Austin for more than ten years, the reviewers must be asked to focus on the contributions and accomplishments during the most recent normative time in rank as defined by their discipline.
The following materials must be placed in Section G.10 of the promotion dossier, with additional information placed in the Section G.12:
(a) Summary of External Reviewers
The department or college/school must prepare a summary of all external reviewers from whom letters were solicited. Using the provided template, reviewers must be grouped into the following categories: letter received, declined request, and no response to request.
If a reviewer does not satisfy the expected qualifications defined in Section D.10(a), the department chair/dean must provide a more detailed explanation within their statement of why the reviewer was selected.
(b) External Reviewer Letters Received
All external review letters solicited by the department chair/dean and received before the vote of the BC/EC must be included in this section of the candidate’s dossier. Letters must be organized alphabetically by the reviewer’s last name and include a note in the upper right-hand corner of the first page of each letter identifying who nominated the reviewer (e.g., department chair, BC/EC, or candidate).
An abridged version of the external reviewer’s CV must be included immediately after each letter. Include only the first two pages if the external reviewer provided a full-length CV.
