A.8 Eligibility to Write a BC/EC Statement

As part of the evaluation process, the BC/EC writes four statements that are included in the promotion dossier [Sections G.6(a), G.7(a), G.8(a), and G.9(a)] that contextualize the candidate’s contributions in each area of review (Section A.7).

Generally, eligible voting members of the BC/EC should write these statements excluding close collaborators of the candidate.

In unusual circumstances, a dean or department chair may authorize a faculty member of the same rank as the candidate to write the BC/EC statement. In such cases, the dean or department chair must explain the unusual circumstances justifying the authorization.
