G.9 Service | (a) BC/EC Statement
The BC/EC must provide a statement that addresses the candidate’s service contributions to UT Austin (at the level of their academic program, department, college/school, and/or university), academic and professional organizations, and/or communities (Austin, Texas, national, and/or international) during their time in rank.
The names and signatures of the members of the BC/EC who prepared the statement must be included.
The assessment should:
- Reflect familiarity with the candidate’s service activities. Identify areas of distinction and potential weaknesses in performance, contributions, and trajectory related to university, professional, and/or community service.
Contextualize the candidate’s service activities with respect to the norms of the field for their rank. Consider the following areas:- Administrative and committee service at UT Austin, including leadership positions held.
- Academic and professionally related public service, including serving as a journal editor and on committees in professional organizations. Indicate the selectivity of the candidate’s roles; for example, membership on a large editorial board is not as prestigious as serving as editor of a journal.
- Community-engaged service, including Op-ed publications or as a board member of a not-for-profit organization.
- Practice- and discipline-engaged activities, including activities that connect faculty with their practice and discipline.
Contextualize any awards, grants, honors, and/or other recognition the candidate received for academic or professional service.
